{"id":1088,"date":"2008-11-30T17:42:39","date_gmt":"2008-11-30T21:42:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=1088"},"modified":"2008-11-30T17:42:39","modified_gmt":"2008-11-30T21:42:39","slug":"the-cheque-with-the-number-of-the-beast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/the-cheque-with-the-number-of-the-beast\/","title":{"rendered":"The cheque with the number of the beast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the year 2000, the Diocese of Niagara had made a mess of its finances &#8211; again.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"The number of the beast is 666 by William Blake\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/4\/40\/The_number_of_the_beast_is_666_Philadelphia%2C_Rosenbach_Museum_and_Library.jpg\/180px-The_number_of_the_beast_is_666_Philadelphia%2C_Rosenbach_Museum_and_Library.jpg\" alt=\"Add an Image\" width=\"180\" height=\"223\" \/><br \/>\nAs a result, it mounted an appeal to all its parishes <span style=\"text-decoration:line-through;\">begging<\/span> asking for donations to help bail itself out of the self-inflicted financial pickle.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, St. Hilda&#8217;s, being a <a href=\"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/2008\/11\/22\/the-diocese-of-niagara-does-st-hilda%E2%80%99s\/\" target=\"_blank\">soft touch<\/a>, donated $3850  to the diocese &#8211; as far as I know, we were the only parish to respond. The only problem, was that the next cheque number in our cheque-book was 666 &#8211; I swear I am not making this up. Had we known what was to transpire in 2007\/8, we would have recognised this as a <a href=\"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/2008\/09\/08\/the-diocese-of-niagara-a-tale-of-hypocrisy-and-lies\/\" target=\"_blank\">prophetic warning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As it was, we tore up 666 and sent 667.
