{"id":10569,"date":"2010-11-08T12:02:59","date_gmt":"2010-11-08T17:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=10569"},"modified":"2010-11-08T12:02:59","modified_gmt":"2010-11-08T17:02:59","slug":"diocese-of-niagara-litigation-costs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/diocese-of-niagara-litigation-costs\/","title":{"rendered":"Diocese of Niagara litigation costs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time that I\u2019m aware of, the Diocese of Niagara has included the cost of suing ANiC parishes in a financial statement.<\/p>\n<p>You can find the statement <a href=\"http:\/\/www.niagara.anglican.ca\/synod2010\/docs\/22.%20Synod%20of%20the%20Diocese%20of%20Niagara%20Financial%20Statements%20December%2031,%202009.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and the relevant line shows that in 2009 the diocese, while not preoccupied with distributing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0cpyxnTDZZE\" target=\"_blank\">free hugs<\/a>, spent $395,895 on lawsuits:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10570\" title=\"Niagara legal fees\" src=\"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Niagara-legal-fees.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"127\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Where did this money come from? It wasn&#8217;t budgeted &#8211; and it still isn&#8217;t. It presumably came from the diocese&#8217;s primary source of income: the diocesan assessment. That means that with a total assessment in 2009 of $3,044,139, 13 cents out of every dollar contributed by Diocese of Niagara parishioners was used to sue fellow Christians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The financial statement goes on to declare that the diocese was the defendant in the 2009 legal action; it was actually the plaintiff &#8211; the instigator of the suit &#8211; as can be seen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canlii.org\/eliisa\/highlight.do?text=diocese+of+niagara&amp;language=en&amp;searchTitle=Ontario+-+Superior+Court+of+Justice&amp;path=\/en\/on\/onsc\/doc\/2009\/2009canlii26601\/2009canlii26601.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.
