{"id":10502,"date":"2010-11-03T17:31:38","date_gmt":"2010-11-03T21:31:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=10502"},"modified":"2010-11-03T17:31:38","modified_gmt":"2010-11-03T21:31:38","slug":"we-dont-need-no-stinkin-covenant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/we-dont-need-no-stinkin-covenant\/","title":{"rendered":"We don\u2019t need no stinkin\u2019 covenant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That\u2019s the sum total of the argument to be found on a <a href=\"http:\/\/noanglicancovenant.org\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">new site<\/a> proclaiming \u201cAnglicans for Comprehensive Unity\u201d, a phrase whose oxymoronic message is aggravated by the uneasy proximity of \u201cAnglicans\u201d and \u201cUnity\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Anglican churches are being asked to adopt a so-called Anglican Covenant that seeks to bind them more tightly to one another and to codify procedures by which future disputes within the Anglican Communion will be resolved.<\/p>\n<p>We believe that this covenant is ill-conceived. In response to the reputed \u201ccrisis\u201d in the Communion, drafters of the covenant have favoured coercion over the hard work of reconciliation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, if it is only a \u201cso-called\u201d Covenant, not a real one and the crisis is only a \u201ccrisis\u201d by repute, why even bother to set up a <em>so called<\/em> No Anglican Covenant Coalition?
