Bogus unity is worse than honest disunity

Now that same-sex marriage is settled, the Anglican Church of Canada is concentrating on presenting a united front “as a form of witness to the world”, in contrast to this “time of political division”, a snide reference, I presume, to the US elections.

Here is a tweet showing Michael Thompson exhorting the church to indulge in a little faux-unity hypocrisy for the sake of its witness…. or should that be coffers?

unity

The only problem is, there is no unity in the ACoC: a number of bishops walked out of the last general synod after the same-sex marriage vote; later, they registered their dissent. Aboriginal Anglicans want to distance themselves from same-sex marriage. I know it falls somewhat short of rioting and property destruction but, in the Anglican world, this is disunity.

As an aside, I do hope Thompson has noticed that voting in the US elections – a slightly more ambitious exercise than the ACoC general synod – went much more smoothly than the GS2016 voting debacle run by…. you guessed it, Michael Thompson.

  1. Calls for “unity” in the mouths of such people mean only “give me money and power”. They aren’t meant seriously. The very same men who prated about “unity” for thirty years did not hesitate to sue parishes and demolish churches. I’m sure our Lord had a word for those who wear long robes and enjoy places of honour while they seize the property of others.

    • I fully agree with your assessment. The only unity Fred Hiltz and the other apostates want is for orthodox bishops and clergy to bow down to their worship of “political correctness” – a term that is as perverse as the apostates wish for unity. They will continue in their legally stealing properties and evicting orthodox Christians and have no intention of making any change. The only way that the ACoC can honestly witness to the world is to rid itself of the apostates including Fred Hiltz and his supporters. The time has long since passed for them to realize it takes more than a purple shirt and a white collar to make a bishop.

  2. The Scriptural prescription for unity is Witness – Holy Spirit Witness – to The WORD;
    not to the “world”. + John 17:14,17, 21a.
    “I have given them Thy WORD: and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I AM not of the world.
    Sanctify them through Thy Truth:Thy WORD is Truth…that they all may be one.”

  3. Those who are in Christ Jesus are united in the invisible Church of Jesus Christ. Visible unity may not be a reality in our life time.
