Aluminum Roof Warranties
Do they work?
Aluminum roofing companies usually offer lifetime warranties on their roofs; Classic Products, for example, tells us that its roof is “The last roof you will ever need to install is a Classic roof. Our roofs have a No Questions Lifetime warranty and a 40 year transferable warranty if you should ever sell your home.”
Is that true?
Follow my saga to find out, in practice, whether the Lifetime warranty Classic Products claims lives up to its name.
I had a Classic Products aluminum roof installed in 2004 and at first all seemed to be well.
However, after having new eaves troughs installed in October 2011 it became apparent that a problem that I had attributed to the old troughs was actually a problem with the roof itself: on three sections of the rook, water is leaking through the soffits.
I’m not entirely certain how long this has been happening, but, judging by dampness on an outer wall on the inside of the house near the worst leak, it has been a while.
Here is the story so far:
Monday November 14th. My first call to Classic Products. The person I spoke to was sympathetic, took down my details and said he would pass the information on to the service department.
Wednesday, November 16th. Having heard nothing from Classic, I called again. Once again, the details were taken to be passed on to the service department.
Thursday, November 17th. Still no call from Classic so, more agitated now, I called again. Once more my details were taken. This time I happened to mention that I was going to set up a web site to record Classic’s commitment to their warranty. Called again at 6:00 pm.
Friday November 18th. Still no call. I called them at 10:30 and asked for the general manage, John Alexander. He wasn’t available. Left a message. Called again at 31;15; he still wasn’t available; left another message. Called again at 4:15; spoke to Stuart again, who was sympathetic – again.
Sunday November 20th. I emailed Isaiah Industries, the parent company of Classic Products.
Monday November 21st The president of Isaiah Industries sent me a response very quickly saying he had contacted the general manager of the Canadian distributor on my behalf.
This morning I finally spoke to the Canadian GM, John Alexander, and he has promised to have a crew at my house in two days.
