Rainbow flags burned: outrage unanimous

From here:

RCMP in Fort McMurray are investigating after two rainbow flags were burned outside the first gay pride event in the northern Alberta city.

A group of people took the flags from Bailey’s Pub around 11 p.m. Saturday and subsequently set fire to them in the parking lot.

Michael Kenny, vice-president of Fort McMurray LGBTQmunity, the group that sponsored the event, called the actions “saddening.”

If this had been an American flag, no-one would have been “saddened”, the media would be applauding – or at least smirking -, the RCMP would be indifferent and the youtube video would have 10,000 likes.

  1. Seems to me Ft. McMurray’s about as redneck as it gets and full of transient oil workers.

In Canada we have a national flag, like it or not; therefore this ‘rainbow’ flag has about as much status as the bunting outside the ford dealership.

The RCMP, who have much more important things to do [like tazering airport passengers; squishing motorcyclists and executing prisoners] are also deeply involved in GLBT scandals and complaints of abuse from female members; so may not have the sensitivity training necessary to deal with a mob of carousing roughnecks.

Mr. Kenny is wrong: the whole thing is pathetic!
