Diocese of Toronto in Gay Pride Parade

Here is Rev. Andrea Budgey sprinkling onlookers from her aspergillum. As Chris Ambidge (the one in the tiara) declared: “Who woulda thought evangelism could be this much fun?”

What continues to puzzle me is why a church thinks its participation in an exhibition of debauchery makes it anything other than a preposterous laughing stock.

You can see the whole sorry spectacle here.

  1. It would appear that Rev. Budgey, in her clerical, sleeveless, muscle/tank top, has loaded her aspergillium with lunarized water mixed with mold from her church’s basement,(as is the custom of wiccans), seeing as there are no flames, or acid-burning smoke arising off the blessed congregants.
As for the proud Anglican, Chris, it is only appropriate a queen be in attendance, as Her Majesty was busy trimming Rowan Williams eye brows.
Honouring God by obeying His Word, and approaching Him with fear and trembling, have been replaced by this social association, with disrespecting Him in public, and approaching him with prancing and dancing.
    Lord-a-mercy!

  2. From the 39 Articles of Religion:

XXVI. Of the Unworthiness of the Ministers, which hinders not the effect of the Sacraments.
Although in the visible Church the evil be ever mingled with the good, and sometimes the evil have chief authority in the Ministration of the Word and Sacraments, yet forasmuch as they do not the same in their own name, but in Christ’s, and do minister by his commission and authority, we may use their Ministry, both in hearing the Word of God, and in receiving the Sacraments. Neither is the effect of Christ’s ordinance taken away by their wickedness, nor the grace of God’s gifts diminished from such as by faith, and rightly, do receive the Sacraments ministered unto them; which be effectual, because of Christ’s institution and promise, although they be ministered by evil men.

Nevertheless, it appertaineth to the discipline of the Church, that inquiry be made of evil Ministers, and that they be accused by those that have knowledge of their offences; and finally, being found guilty, by just judgment be deposed.

  3. Having just endured my own fair city’s gay parade [my husband and I sat in a park nearby and watched the water and spectators, not the parade, (which we’ve already seen)] … my impressions are fresh. Let’s just say, once you’re no longer shocked by the adolescent display, you see just how sad and monotonous it is. Reminds me of a comment by the poet Robert Bly, that “[t]he distance between the adolescent and the true adult is about five thousand miles.”

    • Also, we saw quite a few families in attendance yesterday: for whatever reason, the organisers deem this a “family-friendly” event. Today is British Columbia Day. And, more to the point, is that there was/is no parade to celebrate “pride” in the local history.

  4. My objection to the sexual content of gay parade is based not on the sexual content per se, but on the fact it puts forward a distorted and pathological expression of sexuality. That and it’s just plain dumb and junky. Carnival it ain’t.
