Let there be light. Pink light

The Diocese of New Westminster held its annual Gay Pride Day Holy Eucharist last weekend, complete with a rainbow candle holder and over 100 people in attendance, not one of whom noticed the oxymoron contained within “Gay Pride Day Holy Eucharist”.

Reverend Laurel Dykstra – please note my restraint in saying nothing about the reverend’s surname – was not only the preacher at the service but organised the Anglican contingent at the Pride parade later in the day:

08-08-2014 10-10-23 PM

The marching Anglicans felt right at home with polyamorists:

08-08-2014 9-47-46 PM

Sin City Fetishists:

08-08-2014 9-50-38 PM

Justin Trudeau:

08-08-2014 9-54-51 PM

And a plausible candidate for the next bishop:

08-08-2014 10-07-49 PM

I am unclear as to whether the Sin City Fetishists participated in the Holy Eucharist or not.

Rev. Dykstra chose to preach on Genesis 32: 22-31, Jacob wrestling with the angel. I am sure that you are well aware that Jacob’s homoerotic wrestling with the angel until he received a blessing is a prophetic foretelling of the struggle between gay Anglicans and the church: the wrestling will continue until a blessing is obtained. What else could it possibly mean?

Let there Be Light

The 6th Annual Gay Pride Day Holy Eucharist took place on the Sunday of the second long weekend of the summer, August 3, 2014, again at Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver.

As has now become traditional at this liturgy, after the processional hymn (for 2014 it was Morning Has Broken led by harpist/vocalist Clare Morgan) and the Dean’s welcome the Service of Light is offered. The presider opens with these words:

“The lighting of a candle is a simple act yet becomes a powerful sign. For when we don’t have the words or don’t know how to pray, a small candle burning brightly expresses our prayer that is always with us – and becomes more powerful with each candle lit.”

Two candles on the Altar and six candles on a rainbow candle holder placed on the Altar were lit: in the face of fear; in the face of violence; in an age of AIDS; for hope; for healing; for courage; for community and for resurrection.

As a buffer between the Eucharist and the Raunch, a “complimentary continental brunch prepared and served by members of the Christ Church Cathedral faith community” was offered before the march. How civilised. How Anglican.

  1. This should remove any possible doubt as to whether the Diocese of New Westminster and the ACoC has abandoned any allegiance to the Gospel. Clearly they have chosen to dance with Satan and rejoice over their success in the civil courts in stealing property from true orthodox Christians. The day will come when they will have to answer to this abomination as they too will have to bow the knee. It is no wonder why many non-believers turn away from so-called churches such as this. They have simply nothing to offer as they have rejected the Gospel and try to hide that by making mention of Scripture in a completely deviant manner. True Christians take a firm stand on the authority of Scripture and the uniqueness of Jesus Christ. The ACoC clearly rejects both.

  2. The polyamory sign reminds us that approval of same sex marriage is not a destination but a journey (associated “sin”: being “homophobic”). Next stop is the mainstreaming of transexuals which is well underway (associated “sin”: being “binary”). Polyamory appears to be taxiing onto the runway for next departure (no associated “sin” announced yet).

Trinity Western is under attack for sticking with Jesus’s definition of marriage, but they are well aware that the current definition (which includes same-sex marriage) is a temporary thing and there is no point in compromising their principles to accept it.

  3. David, how did you get those photos of the Vancouver Pride parade?

Concerning Christ Church Cathedral, yes, it is disappointing. When I returned to Vancouver, in 2002, the following year, I went and watched the Pride parade. I was surprised at how blatant the Anglicans who marched were, holding up banners. What irritated me, was these Anglicans ought to have been aware there are other Anglicans who are troubled and critical of these activist Anglicans and this issue. But, they were totally unconcerned. I have noticed, also, a trend. When activist Anglicans do something, they love to get their photo in a newspaper. So, what Randy Murray is doing, (he is the Diocesan newspaper man, and a photographer. He also is a member of the Cathedral), he is affirming these lay persons in their ministry, ie, in being politically active. A few years back, two female clergy had solar panels put on Church roofs. both these female clerics got their pictures into the local, neighbourhood newspaper!!!!.

Present day Liberal Anglican activists, love to boast about their faith, and their activities. It is all very show-offy.

But, friends, don’t assume all New Westminster Anglicans support this. The Cathedral Anglicans are more strident. Yes, many Anglicans here do seem to go along with the Liberals. After all, we have had 20 years of Bishop Ingham. And Peter Elliot, the Dean (a gay partnered man) has been at the Cathedral, I think, going on 17 years.

The white vehicle, with Anglican written on it, in the parade, seems to me to symbolize a middle-class, or a weathy, Anglican Church. Not that good a symbol of Christianity. But, it fits the current Church out here. At least the Anglicans walking beside the car are dressed in a reasonable way.

  4. I could not help but feel disgusted by the pictures. Not just the blatant pornographic nature of it, but also the offensive defacing of our Country’s flag by replacing the red bars with a homosexual symbol. Perhaps there is something telling in this. That being that these people perhaps believe that they have actually taken over the country. With Trudeau the younger present and supporting them this might be more accurate than many of us a prepared for.

  5. For David Kellett:-
You make reference to “Liberal Anglicans” but the truth is that they are neither Anglicans or Christians despite any claim to the contrary by the apostate leadership at Christ Church Cathedral. The problem within the Anglican Communion (and also some other denominations) is that the leadership has willingly fallen into apostasy and no one is prepared to hold them to account. When you reject one or both of the mandatory requirements to be either a Christian or an Anglican you can no longer be called “Liberal”. These requirements are full acceptance of the authority of Scripture and the uniqueness of Jesus Christ. If you cannot accept these you are an apostate — tragically many of the so-called bishops including the primate fall into that catagory.
