Diocese of Montreal elects first female bishop

MiGThere isn’t anything surprising about that, of course. Nor is there anything surprising about this:

Irwin-Gibson listed nine priorities, of which the sixth was “to continue the Diocese of Montreal’s inclusive policy of ordaining partnered gay people.” She was the only one of four whose statement mentioned the topic.

The only surprising thing is that a suitable “partnered gay” person couldn’t be found for the position of bishop; the diocese had to make do with Irwin-Gibson instead. Still, at least she mentioned the priority of looking for more “partnered gay people” to ordain.

  1. With one exception I have trouble thinking of anything less significant than the Anglican Diocese of Montreal and of course that’s the ( you guessed it-not very clever but quite obvious). Next it’ll be a Muslim bishop and after that a deceased bishop, eventually all the way down to gender-deprived one cell dead amoeba bishops….who were militant atheists.

    • hmmm- does restricting this to “partnered” gays then exclude (meaning not include) single gay people?- (where is the inclusion thing here?) anyone?

  2. I am glad that the title is “Diocese of Montreal elects first female Bishop”, not woman Bishop. In the old good days, female priests were called women priests. Yet we never called male priests men priests. For Anglo-Catholics, the problem does not exist; priests are male only anyway. Although Professor J. I. Packer is not an Anglo-Catholic, as far as I know he still cannot support the ordination of women to the priesthood. Packer agrees with the majority of Christian churches in the world which do not ordain women. However, Dr. John Stott, an Evangelical, changed his mind about his position on female ordination in the early 1970s. Personally I have enjoyed reading books written by both Packer and Stott since 1965.

  3. At Mount Royal (Carmel), Jezebel now celebrates at formerly Ahab’s Table;
both equally halting “between two opinions” in the interests of being “inclusive”
of Baal; but exclusive of The LORD GOD.
    + I Kings 18

  4. And women should not be priests, so she could not be a bishop. About as valid at the group that ordains Catholic ladies.

    • Orthodoxy in Jesus Christ does not turn on one’s gender:+ Galatians
3:26 ff. If that were the case, the appointee’s predecessor would have been such. It does turn on”abiding” in The WORD of GOD + John 15: “Now ye are clean through The Word that I have spoken unto you…abide in Me ,and My Words abide in you…”
Those “Words'” ‘include’ Jesus’ Infallible teaching on human sexuality and marriage.
On that count, neither of them has or does “abide” – not unlike the five sequential Primates of the ACC – all male!
There is a ‘messy’ Church; and then there is a dirty Church.

      • Female ordination remains a divisive issue in parts of the Anglican Communion. Professor J. I. Packer and Dr. John Stott represents the two different positions. Galatians 3:28 states clearly that having become one with God, true Christians now belong to each other in such a way that distinctions that formerly divided them lose significance.

      • First Corinthians 14:33–35
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law

        • “Silence” for women is not the order of The Holy Spirit
as fully revealed in The WORD of GOD:
and as honoured at ‘The Peoples Church’ (The Reverend Charles Price),Toronto: Mrs. Hillary Price’s sermon this day, Sunday, June 14, 2015, from the shores of Galilee,
“When GOD, The Lion of The Tribe of Judah, Moves In”, based on + Ezekiel 8:1-17 and + John 20.
The issue of the messenger becomes problematic, be one male or female, only when he or she fails to preach and faithfully live The Message, The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
A worthwhile series on all of this at ‘Living Truth’, May, 2007 (available on CD), entitled,
“In The Beginning…” teaching the Divine Order for the home; and the Divine Order for The LORD’s Church
in which both men and women are “The Bride” of Christ, their Sole Head and King.

          • This is a pretty lovely demonstration that “quotes ping pong” is not always conducive to resolving a disagreement.

            • Listen/Shema to the sermon, then get back.
+ Ezekiel 8:1-18 + the current grave spiritual crisis of the ACC
and of every soul in a state of unconfessed sin
“Have you seen?…See.. Have you seen?…See…Have you seen?
              …See…Have you seen this?…”
              + John 20 + its Christ+centered Solution:
“Shalom.Receive you The Holy Spirit…sins remitted…sins retained.” That soul or Church+Taken+Blessed+Broken:and+ Given. Either “Ichabod” + Ezekiel ch. 10 or “Shalom” + John ch.20 is THE only choice with The LORD.

  5. You know…I’m the first one to support women in any position in business, life, etc., but what I have seen in Edmonton with “women” clergy- I have to say that we are batting zero-they are batshit crazy, lefty, self loathing fools. I’m so disappointed and embarrassed by what they have done to help the destruction of my once great Anglican church.

  6. Any so-called clergy person that endorses homosexual conduct and seeks to ‘bless” same is nothing less than an apostate. Most of these claimed clergy also clearly state that all religions are the same thus making a mockery of the Eucharist and defaming both our Lord Jesus Christ and God, the Father, as such teachings destroy the reason for the crucifixion. To be a true Bishop – whether male or female – one must fully accept both the uniqueness of Jesus Christ and the authority of Scripture.

  7. I have more issue with people writing off a priest/bishop because of what’s between their legs, instead of what’s between their EARS.

for all the people who complain that women shouldn’t be ordained, maybe it’s also time to look at which men are being ordained.

    • Truth is, whats between their legs directly affects whats between their ears- and we are batting near zero with the women clergy so far-

      • I would love to see your wife’s reaction — or your daughter’s or your mother’s — as you say this aloud to her.

      • Lets be honest though. The track record of male priests is also terrible. Guess what? Priests = human beings, regardless of gender we ALL fall short of the Glory of God. I’ve known clergy who are faithful, humble, and seeking the Lord…and conversely, priests who are most definitely not. But some may be surprised that it’s not only the women who have shortcomings.
