So there you have it: the Anglican Credo circa 2012, the 39 articles in a shrunken trivial trinity, a tertiary triteness, a bromidic banality, a diabolical dephlegmation.
Or perhaps it’s so profound, I missed the point and should repeat it:

They appear to be giving The Rt. Rev. James Cowan of the Anglican Church of Canada as the source of the quote.
It’s a misquote, and wrongly attributed. This is not an attempt to summarize the 39 Articles but an approach to reading and understanding the Gospel by Rev. Canon Bill Cliff of Huron University College. His guidance and work is excellent; shame it has been misquoted and, on this blog, wrongly dismissed. The first should read “the Gospel is always astonishing”
It does seem to be something that was actually said by James Cowan, although the original article could have misquoted him, of course, just as he could have misquoted the person you believe originally said it.
Yes, I realise it wasn’t a summary of the 39 articles, but comparing the three aphorisms (either version) to the 39 articles seemed to me to be a good way to highlight the depths of their banality.
