Squabbling bishops

It appears that Anglican Church of Canada bishops are having a difficult time keeping their stories straight on exactly what happened at the recent House of Bishops Meeting.

In Anglican-speak, this is called walking together.

From here:

The head of the Anglican Church of Canada says a bishop in eastern Newfoundland has made inaccurate statements about the church’s internal debate over the blessing of same-sex marriages.

Most Rev. Fred Hiltz, primate of the Canadian wing of the church, is challenging Bishop Geoff Peddle’s assertion that the church is unlikely to allow the practice because indigenous bishops and the people they represent are opposed to the idea.

Peddle’s comments were made earlier this week during an interview broadcast across Newfoundland and Labrador by radio station VOCM.

He could not be reached for comment today.

Hiltz says the church’s 45 bishops in Canada have made it clear they are unlikely to reach the two-thirds consensus needed to change the church’s rules at its next General Synod in July.

However, Hiltz stressed that it would be inaccurate to suggest that the church’s three indigenous bishops are largely responsible for that position, saying there are plenty of non-indigenous bishops who also hold conservative views.

  1. Good for my Maritime brethren. Spot on I say. Keep calm and carry on. The notion that Primate deluxe Frederick Hiltz purports to speak for anyone but himself is laughable.

  2. This shows it is time for apostates such as Fred Hiltz to carefully read 1 Kings 18:21-39 and clearly state whether they stand with Baal or God. Baal is indeed a god – notice the small “g” and there are many Baals in our society. However, as Christians we are called to stand with God – notice the capital “G”. For too long apostates such as Fred Hitlz have led people to the worship of Baal – the small “g” – rather than the true God – the large “G”. As Christians we are not called to worship the small “g” of political correctness but the large “G”. Tragically apostates such as Fred Hiltz and might I say the ABC continue in their push to have the church worship the small “g”. It is for this reason that the TEC and the ACoC will descent into oblivion unless they repent and cry out “The Lord, He is God: the Lord, He is God.

  3. “unless they repent and cry out “The Lord, He is God: the Lord, He is God.”

That would be patriarchal and sexist. They would have to say something like, “God, God is God, God, God is God.”
